Abstract:

The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), a proposed collider facility with main ring circumference of 100km, is expected to play a leading role in the particle physics exploration in the next few decades. In its nominal design, the CEPC will be operated at center of mass energies from 91 GeV to 240 GeV, and produces 1 Million Higgs bosons, 100 Million W bosons, and almost 1 Tera Z bosons in 10 years operation. Giving the extremely clean collision environment of the electron positron collider, CEPC can boost the precisions on Higgs properties by one order of magnitude with respect to the ultimate precision of the HL-LHC, improve the current precision on EW measurement by 1-2 orders of magnitudes. Meanwhile, the CEPC also serves as a superb factory of quarks, leptons, which could significantly enhance our knowledge on Flavor physics, QED, et.al.

This talk will introduce the physics motivation, the technology spin-off, and the latest status of the CEPC project.

Biography:

Prof. Manqi Ruan acquires his Bachelor and Ph.D degree in Tsinghua University, and a Ph.D degree in Paris XI University. After 6 years of PostDoc at Ecole Polytechnique and 2 years of CERN Fellow, he come back to Institute of High energy physics, and works on the Circular Electron Positron Collider project. His team established the baseline design of the CEPC conceptual detector and the software system, and also quantifies the physics potential of the CEPC in the CEPC Conceptual Design Report study.

His research interests covers the physics potential study, the detector design, optimization, reconstruction and software development developments for the future colliders.
